I'm not sure if I was the one that mentioned PDD in your previous post, but my son is now 4, and was diagnosed with PDD when he was 2. I'm not a doctor, but I will say that your son definitely exhibits alot of the same issues my son had - he does have some red flags. My son at age 2 scored as an 11 month old as well speech wise. The issues my son had were delayed speech (he was nonverbal at age 2), poor eye contact, didn't play with toys properly, seemed "in his own world" alot. His particular weakness was receptive language, he didn't understand a word we said for the most part. He was difficult to manage at times.

I'm not familiar with Soonerstart - but I highly recommend asking your pediatrician for a referral to a developmental pediatrician or nuerologist. There are tests they can do to determine if your son falls on the autism spectrum. If he does end up wtih a PDD diagnosis, try not to despair and get hung up on the "autism" word. My son has been in pretty intensive therapy since age 2..... he's now 4 and you wouldn't know there was a thing wrong with him for the most part. He's talking great, understands everything, eye contact is perfect, he plays great with toys and other kids.... we're still workign on his attention span during school, but he's made tremendous progress. Early intervention and therapy is key though.

I hadn't heard of it either when my son was diagnosed - had a crash course in it over the last two years! I try to pass on my what I've learned whenever possible, help people recognize the "red flags" of PDD. I saw something was "off" with my son probably starting right after his first birthday, but people kept telling me "he's a boy, boys talk late" blah blah blah. I had no knowledge of PDD or anythign close to it. Although my son is doing well, I wish I knew then what I know now. trust your instinct - you know your son best. I wish you the best of luck!!!
